James is currently directing a production of Fame at Van Mildert College, Durham.
The Broadway smash-hit musical comes to Durham! Set at the New York School of Performing Arts, it takes you on a rollercoaster journey, following a group of students’ relationships and lives between 1980 and 1984. They are part of the last class to graduate from the historic building on West 46th Street.
“Fame—The Musical” is bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today: issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance.
